About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia, as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I hold an M.S. in Counseling from Loyola University in Maryland. I maintain membership in the American Counseling Association (ACA), and I follow the Standards of Ethics for Counseling held by the National Board for Certified Counselors.

Through psychotherapy and consultation, I help individuals, couples, and families lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. Areas of clinical experience include depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, disordered eating, relationship issues, trauma, life transitions, sexual orientation, grief and loss, substance abuse, and separation/divorce. Through on-going post-graduate education and training, I stay current with the latest research in the fields of psychotherapy and counseling in order to provide my clients with the best possible care.

Along with intensive clinical training in psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapies, I have received training in sandtray therapy, directive play therapy, child-centered play therapy, and creative arts interventions. I have also received training in dream analysis, relaxation exercises, grounding techniques, mindfulness, meditation, and guided imagery. I work collaboratively with my clients, and I tailor my work to respond to the individual needs and wants of each of my clients within their unique life contexts.

I specialize in a holistic therapeutic approach to health and wellness that addresses the multiple dimensions of the human person: emotional, mental, social, spiritual, physical. The basis for this approach is substantiated by findings in neuroscience that have established the interconnectivity of our emotions, thoughts, relationships, brain, and body. In session with my clients, I integrate traditional talk therapy with supportive modalities that use both the left brain and the right brain, thereby promoting optimal growth and healing. I believe that genuine health is an ongoing process to be nurtured, and I teach my clients skills that empower them to continue nurturing their own health and wellness long after we have stopped meeting.

One of my interests is working with clients who have international, cross-cultural experiences. This is an outgrowth of my own personal experience of having spent three years abroad in various countries, coupled with my education and training in counseling psychology. Currently, my main research interest focuses on the impact of home culture and host culture on an individual’s identity within the broader context of human lifespan development.
